For a Long Time I Used to Go to Bed Early

A friend of mine turned 18 today, and in honor of her we had a dance party in my Govt. class. We started talking about all the things she would be able to do now, and all the things she won't be able to do.

In Dallas turning 18 means you will never buy cigarettes illegally from gas stations just because you wear a "Park Cities YMCA" tee-shirt. It also means, if you haven't already, you will never make out with the one armed girl at Club 17, or have your next birthday be "irony" themed by celebrating it at the Chuck E Cheese in Lewisville.

Also, I think I am having a veritable quarter-life crisis. I blame Ivan from the Brothers Karamzov:

"It's different for other people; but we in our green youth have to settle the eternal questions first of all.  That's what we care about.  Young Russia is talking about nothing but the eternal questions now.  Just when the old folks are all taken up with practical questions.  Why have you been looking at me in expectation for the last three months?"

I don't understand the detached, objective study of philosophy though.  It seems that unless you are going to live out or discover your philosophy there is little reason to study it.
